I was laying in bed last night dreaming about my Donzi, and had a thought. Has anyone tried using a pair of the Hyd. trim cylinders as a dual steering ram system? They could mount right above the other trim cylinders on the drive. Sure would be cheaper than those $1000 a piece rams. Make a piviting brackets for the transom, and a mount for the drive, run the lines and go! What are your thoughts guys? I guess my first thought is that maybe they wouldn't flow fluid fast enough?

It might be worth fooling around with, the rate of movement may as you say kill the idea. You can only flow just so much oil through a small hole, buy maybe due to the push they do create you could move the the pivots closer to the center of axis. Looking forward to someone being the guinea pig. LOL!

There is a thread on this on OSO. Lenght of cylinders stroke and a something else eliminated them as a source.

Outdrive Rams???

Might work, but the pivots might look kind of goofy... Also, you'd probably want to increase the diameter of the hoses. These would be lower pressure, but higher volume.

Trim Tab Rams???

If I remember correctly, the Bennetts are one-way with spring pressure providing the return. That might be a problem as well.

I think the K-Plane rams are two way, but by the time you buy them, you might as well get rams that were designed for steering in the first place...

Clay, They would work if the orfice was enlarged to 3/8, otherwise too slow.

OK Clayman - I'm getting suspicious and beginning to wonder if your whole boat is nothing more than a Photoshop mirage. Scoop, finish, interior, babes, can't be real – say it aint so

OK - so I'm still just jealous of that scoop :p

Oh RedDog , you made me laugh. The boat is real, I have the bills to prove it. Still haven't add up all those dam receipts. Yes I have been having a bit o fun with photoshop. That was just a quick photo-sketch if you will to help everybody visualize the idea. I think photos really add to this site, and makes it more interesting. I didn't take time to draw any brackets or anything.
here is some more things I have been working on, I hope Donzi doesn't  on me for this:
