I am a first time Donzi owner and just posted my first message to the boards yesterday. I was out having fun on the water today and started having gremlins. I suspected it was ignition problems b/c it sounded like it was missing a cylinder or two. Pretty pissed b/c I just tuned it up last week, I headed strait home to start wrenching. my chin hit the manifold when I pulled the number 1 spark plug. It was dripping and at least a cup of water ran out of the cylinder. I checked the other plugs and found the same thing in number 7.

I'm thinking head gasket?

Any other recommendations?

Probably a leaking riser gasket or rusted out exhaust manifold.
Make sure you get the water out of there quick http://www.donzi.net/ubb/eek.gif. Turn engine over with spark plug out (ground the wire) and spray with liberal amounts of WD-40.

Pull the riser and have a look. If you can't find a problem there pressure test the manifold and riser.

Good Luck!

I am by far, no mechanic, but I just helped my bud up the street pull a guys motor and he had a cracked head.... water in 3 pistons, let alone a spun bearing on the crank leaving a grove and a pan full of metal....

On a lighter note, HIS wife told me BOAT stood for "Break Out Another Thousand"

I had a similar problem this year. It ran fine last year had it winterized(questionable on the work) and when I fired her this year the engine filled with water. Maybe this could be an easier problem to fix than mine. I just shucked out 5k for a new motor http://www.donzi.net/ubb/frown.gif

If my problem is in the exhast, I might as well turn this into a positive. Anyone know where I can purchase a new riser/manifold for a 1980 18' that isn't a weeklong project to install?

It seems to be a rusted manifold. I flushed the motor and cylinders with 20 Qts of oil, 3 filters and some internal metal protector should have flushed it out.

I think I agree with you MADPOODLE. Am I looking at custom work or do you know of someplace that knows what I need?
