I am thinking about purchasing a 2002 33ZX with twin 496 MAG HO does anybody have any input on this boat with these engines I have heard some good and some bad things, or should I go for a 33 with twin 500 EFI. Not real worried about top end more about reliability. Thanks in advance for any info provided

My Mechanic (merc Master) likes the the 496 motors. If you plan on keeping it stock I think you would be happy with the 496 motors.I dont think there is alot offered to hop up the 496 yet. but I hear it's a good motor.

my 2 cents :D

Go with the 500's. You will thank yourself come resale time. Besides what can hurt to have a few more horses along for the ride.

Ed, Schedule a drive in Woody's 33 Daytona with the 500 EFI's, Those motors are very impressive! We rode to dinner for Saturday night across from Jacksons in that, with Captain Mike Miller  ...I would drive both, but the EFI's were awesome eek! ...Good Luck...Doc

Undertaker...

Up here at Winni there is a brand new 2000 33ZX with twin HP-500's. The boat is loaded! They only want $130K for her. Really pretty yellow boat. IF you want more info, give me a call 978-502-5465.

I had a 33ZX with 502's and it was a good running boat. Now I have a 33ZX with 500 efi's and it is a great running boat. Everything improved from getting on plane to over 8 mph faster top end. Go with the 500's you will not be sorry. Best of luck. Rick

Currently have a 33ZX with twin 500EFI's. Sounds and runs great. Had a 2001 with twin 502mags. Ran well but was a little sluggish on take off and mid range. Was not totally disappointed with the 502's performance just wanted top end and responsived throttle. Removed the stock mufflers from the 500EFI's and the boat sounds awesome. I would assume the 496's would fall somewhere in between the 502 and 500EFI's. I learned the hard way and went with the 502's to save some money. A year later I got the 500EFI's. The 2000 33ZX sounds like a good buy. I vote for 500HP's or 500EFI's.

Thanks guys for all your info, Dr. Dan I am going to get Woody to put the 33ZX Daytona in the water for a test run, then we will go from there. Maybe things will work out, I still love my 28ZX but the wife and I need more room in the cabin to move around. The 2000 33ZX sounds great but I have a 2000 28ZX now and would like to gain a couple of years. I don't know if that makes sense, but thats how I feel about it. Thanks anyway.

No big deal... I just know these guys are very anxious to sell this boat and its brand new, maybe 20hrs of test drives on her. Good luck with your quest!

I had a 2000 33zx with 502 and kept it 7 months then traded to a 38daytona to get the bigger motors and generator. You will like the 33 over the 28 because I had a 1999 26zx before the 33. I would go with the 38 for the biggest improvement if you want to spend the money. If you talk to the donzi test drivers which I know very well they will tell you that the 28 and the 38 are there favorite boats. The 33 has spacers in the drives which make it plane very slowly. They did this because it spins out if you tuck the drives under. I took mine out but had to but them back for liabilty reasons when it was sold. Either way get the 500 EFI they are better than 500 carb and more expensive.
