Fellas,
Coming from a Volvo heritage, I know nothing about OMC Cobras other than RickR telling me his King Cobra shifted smoothly, and steered tight. So, I'm about to help a friend change the drive oil in his Cobra. Can anyone let me know what to look for? I assume this is a no brainer, where one simply unscrews a plug on the bottom, drains the oil, and fills to some specific level?? Thanks in advance!!

Nate

I am not famaliar with the Cobra but the King Cobra drained and filled from the bottom. The screw on top had a dipstick. Lower line for dipstick NOT screwed in.
Top line for dipstick screwed in.

I used Hi-Vis which is OMC's synthetic gear lube.

Thanks Rick! We'll give it a shot.

The deck still resides in the driveway, the hull in the garage and 100% stripped on the inside. Cardboard templates were cut for the gussets I'm adding to the outside of the stringers and she's all prepped for epoxy resin and space age thermo lite board gussets. Next step is to cut the gussets, install them, then move to laminating the transom out of synthetic material, then mount the drive and extension box so I can set up the new "engine stringers" and mounts. Once that's set, she's off to the plastic beader for external paint removel and and a new coat of red and white paint. I have a ways to go, but she's coming along.

The 509 short block is just days from being done http://www.donzi.net/ubb/wink.gif

I'll post some pics once the gussets are in.
