My son and I enjoyed a superb 85 degree day at Hardy Dam in Newaygo, MI. This is a traditional weekend on this lake, where apparently years ago the hottest and fastest boats in west Michigan would gather because the sherrif's water patrol stopped patrolling on Labor Day...because of budget. So it has evolved into quite an event, with lots of drag boats and offshore boats gathering and running the very scenic river/reservoir.

After about 30 minutes on the water I spot an old Hydrostream dead in the water and do my duty by stopping to offer assistance. He thinks all he needs is a jump, so we try that for about 15 minutes with no luck. I'm committed now, so I offer to tow him, and sure enough it is a one hour trip back to his ramp! His gratitude was my reward though, and, as was discussed in an earlier post, I of course refused the compensation he offered.

Lunch at a 'party cove' is where the Cigarette pic was taken, and where my son got an eyeful of partying boaters dancing for beads. Lots of high speed running took up the remainder of the day, since my son does not seem to object to the rough ride like my wife sometimes does! The boat ran real well, with a pretty consistent 60 mph @ 5400rpm top speed attained. But this is speedo and not gps so I am unsure about accuracy.

After coming home and showing my wife the video we shot she says we may just go back again tomorrow! I say O.K.!

You earned a merit badge from the Hydro and a "cool Dad" badge from your son! Fantastic pics...
