I found this article in Motor Boating September 1966, Donzi Wins 1,2 & 3.
Allen Brown takes first, Don takes second.

Thanks George brings back a lot of memories, the Eltros were built next town over. Several of my Buddies had them and I knew Gene he was our idol fast in both boats and cars. There is an Eltro out by me that RT from the board has been after for a few years, dumb owner is letting it rot a real shame.

Bob Weichbradt was our guest speaker at the June 1998 Dust Off. He was the Donzi dealer in the article who lived on Long Island and was the guide in Allen Browns boat which beat Aronow by only 2 seconds.George , I think you were at that Dust Off. He moved to Sagamore Island on Lake George in 1988 and lived here for about 15 years and since then he has moved back to Long Island. If your readin this Bobby, here's a Bud for you.

Thanks George,

Wow!!!
That brings back a lot of memories for me too! I was out there that day just north of the V.Z. bridge. I was 14 yr's, old and was thrilled to be a spectator, you didn't get to see that kind of stuff on TV. I remembered hearing the roar of the engines and seeing many long low laying boats raise slowly out of the water as the rpm's came on then explode into nothing to see but a giant rooster tail from their rear view as the sounds of the engines faded away in no time. I remembered I couldn't get back to the marina fast enough that I worked at to tell everyone what I saw, eek! from that day on I always wanted a "Deep Vee hull with a big V-8 engine" :) and that was 37 yr's ago. :( !! It certainly made a lasting impression on this kid!! :p I borrowed my dad's 17' speedboat that day to go see it and the next two years I was out there in my Glaspar G-3 following year with my Carlson contender.

Thanks,
Walt. :)
