What outdrive is mated to the 350 Chevy on the '68 16'...and also, does it have trim tabs? Some say that the 18 is a bit more stable, but it's been a while since we've debated that topic. I love my '67 16' but have never owned an 18' to compare it to.

As far as years go ALL Donzi's are well built except, allegedly, the 3 years starting in 1990 that OMC took over. Here it would all depend on condition. The prices sound reasonable, but take a close look at the gas tanks in each. Apparently rust is a common problem and a costly fix, requiring the deck to be pulled.

I have all three in my fanily. A16, 18, and 22. the 68 prabably has a Volvo which I love, the 18 has a merc alpha more people know how to work on them and it has power trim. the 18 rides a little better and has better resale value.

Could this gas tank thing be a problem on a 1980??/ What else should I look out for ? I think I am leaning twoards the 18

I think you're leaning in the right direction. The 18 tends to be closer in desirable areas for MOST people.

Lean toward the 18. After owning both I have to give the 18 the nod on ride. The extra two feet and no "hook" like the 16 had make for a better riding boat.

Also, the twin side by side front buckets are very user friendly. My wife would bounce out of the rap around 16's seat and get tossed toward me when we were running hard and leaving the water alot. She felt alot more secure in the 18's bucket with the "o-my-gosh" bar to hold on to.
