Which year did OMC change from dog-clutch to cone-clutch? How is the changeability between dog/cone/sx cobra?

If my memory is correct, I would say it was the first year of the Volvo Penta/OMC joint venture (1992)??
The drive was basically a OMC case and Volvo guts!

It has been refined through the years.
Changing a Cobra (not a King Cobra) to a SX is not an easy task. Find a newer transom sheild and drive.

My 1990 King Cobra had a cone clutch.
They are not interchangable with the early m.odel (transom bracket is different)
