THRU EXHAUST

Can anyone give me a reason why my 18 / 350 / 280 exhaust ports below the waterline, when most I've seen are straight out. Was this an option? The only purpose I would think is to quiet it down a bit, but who wants that!

My 242 Formula was like that too. To tell you the truth, I kind of miss it. When you were idling you could listen to the stereo, but now on the 302, I never even turn the stereo on. But when you get on a plane, it would sound just as good.
