You need an external water pick-up.
Run a transom pick-up with a built-in grate and you do not need a strainer.
The pick up could add some stern lift to the side yo mount it on. If your boat run with a slight list to the port, then install the pick up on the port.
The e:drive reduces most of the steering wheel pull,(prop torque). This is nice, however the boat could be harder to drive straight with out external steering. Most older Volvo's have a sloppy steering helmut. The outdrive runs nice with all the torque of the prop keeping pressure on one side of the helmut. When you hit a wave the prop unloads and you get the Volvo wobble. With the E;drive the prop torque is very little and therefore the drive can wobble a lot more.
