I put a bid in as Oettpo. Let's see where it goes. It's close by.

I have never used E-Bay for anything. I'm definately interested in this. How come there are no pictures of this item or am I missing something here?. I wouldn't mind trying to bid on this and if successful, getting it shipped to Seattle for pick up but I need to see it here or something. Has anyone seen this boat?

Len, baby...
email the owner and ask for some pics. I too think this is rather low, and only the owner knows for sure why he is doing this.

there's a good idea. I just did that. Give this another 9 days of bidding and I'm sure we'll be over 10k...Who, recently on the Registry, was selling ,(I believe) an x-18 less engine, and then decided to keep it, much to everyones delight? What would it take, financially, for that person or anyone of you to change your minds? Project boats for sale anyone?

I don't know Len, the bids seem to climb the first day out, then slow down until the final day.
As far as a boat goes, I do know the location of a 1969 Sweet Sixteen badly in need of resto.
Email me.

I'm not sure, but if this is the boat I think it is, it's also for sale in the Boats For Sale page of this web site (nhdonzi). I would bet that the poker run on Lake Winnepesaukie was the catalyst in his decision to sell the boat, as we all got pretty well beat up that day...those of us in 16's! Anyway, lets hope we get some pics!

Oh yeah, I am going to look at an 18 next week (ain't gonna tell you VULTURES where!), so my VERY NICE 16 may be for sale at a reasonable price then. There is a picture of it in the registry...probably a 8.5 on a scale of 10! I'll let you know.

Lenny,

Here is a project boat (http://www.boattraderonline.com/addetail.html?3771198) for you. Check out the most unusual "high-dome engine hatch"...it looks as if a short, stout man in a body bag is laying across the hatch!

Or, this looks like a good buy on an '88 Minx (http://www.boattraderonline.com/addetail.html?3301900), ready to run!

The high dome 18 is a bit scary looking. It has been for sale for a long time and looks re-painted to me from here. The minx is nice but not a first choice for me. There is also a nice one on E-bay in Tahoe right now for about $7500.00...Looking for a classic18 or 16 sporter...project

I don't think the 16 that Tony posted with the high dome hatch is a Donzi. It's a "Champ", and the hatch is factory. I have seen a 16 and a friend of mine owned an 18 version. Around 1969-1970, Holman Moody had a couple of these and set them up with their engines and Volvo drives. They were on Lake Wylie here in Charlotte. Except for the hatch they were identical in design and construction to my 1971 - 18. They had the wrap-around cocktail seating with the rear seat cushions curving up to follow the curve of the hatch. My friend's 18 was a really nice boat. That's all I know - does anyone else know the history of the "Champ" ?

Called the owner. He is from Lake Winni-whatever. Says the boat is mint. Although it is a no reserve bid, I have a feeling he will back out if the bids don't go high enough. That's the problem with e-bay.

PaulO,
What's the deal with that?
Do you mean the buyer has no recourse? I didn't know the seller could back out of a deal. When we buy, we are making a contract. When you sell, aren't you making a contract to the highest bidder? I don't know for sure, but why wouldn't this guy put a reserve on it if he had any intention of pulling the rug from the highest bidder?
Did that make sense?

In reading the e-bay lingo stuff, the seller is obligated to sell to you and/or the buyer is obligated to buy it. The thing is, the only recourse they have is to, (after 3 warnings) deny you access to buy or sell on e-bay. They will refund a sellers money if the bidding goes sour and and if the purchaser finds it impossible to get the goods from the seller they can put in some "negative feedback" in the remarks column on the seller. Doesn't seem fair. This should cost someone more as a "no reserve" is by no means truly "binding". So when you win and jump up and down, its not over yet...

Well, things are looking grim for a bargain!
It's now up to $4,259.23, with quite a few days left to go.

I sell on ebay and there is no recourse if the seller or buyer bails out. All you can do is leave negative feedback, but it appears to be a straight deal and judging by the picture the boat will bring more as the auction nears its end. I bid on the boat but I am a bit hesitant to bid again without seeing it in person.

thanks for the pics. Never got anything from the seller. Is anyone going to look at it and report? Is there an engine hanging off the back? Was the other side hit by a truck? Who lives in New Hampshire?

Ok, the 16 Classic seems to have stalled out at $6100. Now all we have to do is get everyone on the planet to stop bidding and then I can have it for $6200.00 This is going to be great!!!(yeah,...right)

Hey Lenny , did the owner ever reply? He never answered my request for more pictures.

as we speak/e-mail. He just sent me an e-mail and is trying to get some pics added to the site on ebay. Maybe, he'll just feel sorry for me living so far away and let me have it...

The 1994 16' Classic on eBay should stall out at 6k or 7k...it's got a V-6 in it! Top speed, what, maybe 45? Good thing it has trim tabs, too, because it's my understanding that the newer 16's tend to porpoise way worse than the originals. Any reasons why that is, I wonder?

Wow!
This thing went for $9400!!!!
Incredible.

Wish I knew who the high bidder was. I am curious as to whether the seller goes through with it.
