I'd like some input (po's and cons) on whether I should restore this 16 to the original 318 marine chrysler V8 with Volvo Penta drive. No upgrades as original as possible OR drop in a merc. engine and alpha drive combo along with new guages, steering and so on. Specific items are:
- the value of the boat restored as compared to modernized.
- reliability of a 30 year old drive
- handling and performance - Am I going to have to just putt around in it because I'm afraid to break something?

Thx.

If you look at prices, I think you will find that there are actually gains to be had in modernizing. Maybe if it were a 66 I would hesitate.

I found that maybe while not as fun one thing that must be taken into account is that restoring what is there is usually cheaper. Take a look at Paul O's boat vs. mime. not as fast not as fun but a lot less money. Would I rather have his boat...yes. But it just was out of the price range.
