Questions??

Greetings fellow speed freaks...

I have a couple of questions regarding my 1990 Donzi 18 Classic. The boat is currently powered by a 270hp OMC King Cobra setup turning a 14 1/4 x 21 rapture. I am guessing the boat is a solid 60mph boat. Basically, I want more speed, but I definitely need to maximize my bang for the buck so to speak. I was tinking of a repower with a 300hp Mercruiser Bravo One setup, but thats pushing approximately 10K. Any other suggestions?? Are the King Cobra drives durable enough to withstand a hot small block? I can certainly build a 400hp aluminum headed 350 fairly easily. But I do not want to destroy the outdrive in the process.

RickR is the biggest King Cobra proponent but, my understanding is that if it is the later model drive with the cone clutches, it is more than capable of handling your small block build.
