Buy a kit at your local marine supply with the polyster gelcoat and colors.
I have a difficult time getting the colors correct.

I follow the instructions on the kit however there are a couple of things I've learned that work. First, I use a small (less than 1/16") round Dremel tool bit to under-cut the edges of the damaged area. This will help the new gel stay put after it's finished. Another important tip is not to stir the gel as you mix color into it. Use a small paddle to spread it back and forth so as not to introduce a bunch of air bubbles into the mix. If there are bubbles, (especially in light colors) the mini-craters formed as you sand material away will fill with wax and dirt over time. You're going to get some microscopic bubbles no matter what you do. After you sand it out the first time, go back over with clear gel to fill them, then final sand and buff. Using this method I've done chip repairs that are invisible and have held solid for years.
