I have a 67 16 ft with a 302 and Volvo 270 drive, no trim but tabs.
The prop was frozen on the splines of the prop shaft(previous owner let the boat sit for a couple of years and didn't using any anti seize or grease) and by the time we got it off it is not exactly functional so we are on the hunt for a new prop. I am looking for info on what people with similar setups are using.
Thanks Danny

Danny,

I also have a '67 16', Volvo 200 drive, with a 302 Ford...but tricked up to (supposedly) produce 300 hp. My aluminum 14 x 21 is great for hole shots and pulling skiers, but revs awful high at top end. My 14 x 23 slips a bit on take-off but gives a better top speed (58 on speedo). I found and bought a 14 x 24 s.s. Volvo Ultra that I am very anxious to try (AOTH?), I think it will give me a tad more speed and drop my rpm's down a touch, too.

Michican wheel carries these in aluminum for about $150. Our 16 with a 302 uses a 143/8 X21 for ski and a 21 pitched t a 22 for all round and turne about.5000->5100 rpms. Hope this helps. same thing happened to me when a friend helped by cleaning off all the grease.

Just remember Tony, you can't run an Ultra on a 200 drive without some modifications to the prop shaft. You also have to change the prop cone.

Yes, I think I understand this. I plan on drilling my shaft like discussed somewhere previously, and switching to the prop cone with the hole in the end for the bolt.

Would the locking tab type prop cone work, with the washer that has tabs that fold over into slots on the prop cone?

Tony , You cant use the locking tabs on a prop with a long hub which is what I hope you are using with 300 HP

Ralph I hope you don't think the shorter shaft is weaker. I used the short shaft on my boat for four years with my 270 lower untill i switched to the 290 lower leg. With the hole drilled and tapped and the right collar they both work well and top speed is the same. The 270 will hold way over 300 horse. I used a grade 8 allen instead of the Volvo stanless one because it is much stronger and torques up higher. The shaft won't rust to the bolt because it is stainless.

Scott When I first had this problem in Jersey I too almost used that wrench then Dad said 'Use a 1/4 drill bit". well it worke, drilled out the allen head then put on the old spanner wrench and off she came, then vice grips on the stud out she came. The electrolittic reaction comes from the aluminum hub, However fresh water has it advantages, colling systen is always flushed and deck is always clean tralier doesn't corode. Disavantage, if you fish, thay are smaller and so are the boat shows. Five days left.
