28 donzi stringers

I have a chance to purchase a 28 donzi sportsman 1967. the owner is asking 5,000. no power,needs total retoration. I had the hull checked, was told that the stringers were rotten. (4,500 ) repair? should I walk away from this boat or make a much less counter offer? I really like the look of the big donzi, and I am aware that there are not many around.any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the boat "Partners" or did you find another one? Watched shipshape on Speedvision last nite and they were installing stringers on a 21 seabird using a non-wood material--did raybo give that estimate?
