Jet drive in a donzi stinks. slow and inefficient. Deep V's and jets don't like each other

WOW!! Randy you are harsh!!! Come on Jet drives have their bonus's.
I like jet drives. However, you'll need at least a big block to have fun and if you want to go fast then you'll need alot of power.
I looked at a Jet 18 Donzi with a 850 hp Alcohol drag engine the man said it went 102mph.

Dont forget,jets SUCK,THEN they BLOW!
Wouldn't you really rather have an Arnie?
GEOO-Did that Alky 850 have a jet???Crap that would be scary at 102!!!!!!!!!!!
Something of the drivers would have to be larger than his brain to ramrod that thing!
Sheeesh!

Geoo. I wonder how fast your boat would go if it had 850 hp...?

I read far too long for a couple of days a few weeks back on jet design/propulsion systems/ Aussie river racing/ Colorado river, 15' Extreme machines etc, only due to the fact that I have a friend running a marine shop and swears that everything that floats should be a jet drive or converted to one. ( I played the part of the sceptic) What I concluded from all this was that the entry of the hull had to be somewhat smooth, no huge V entry at the bow, deadrise was not to exceed 15 degrees, and the hull was to create very little turbulence ahead of the intake. Basically be everything that an 18' Donzi is not. When I see how well these hulls "air out" at 65-ish I wonder where a jet drive would be getting its dinner from? Low speed handling is terrible, you have to get on it to accomplish anything, and despite what proponents say, you still need MORE ponies to go as fast as a propeller.

On a different note though, I wonder how long an Alpha would last coming 5' out on a breaker or standing wave 100 times in a row and landing in shallow water at full throttle with 500hp?

Have you guys seen this? There are actually two jet drive Classics on boattraderonline right now, a 1969 16' and a 1973 454 powered 18'.

This is what the "Starfire" (mid '70's) copies look like up here on the west coast. The interior looks the same. The cockpit was not molded into the deck at the beam as all the "REAL" ones I see here are. Is this thing real?...or is it a copy as well??? (NO, I don't want to buy it... http://www.donzi.net/ubb/wink.gif )

Oh, and by the way. The rear seat area does not seem to have or a least show the radius that is in all the 16's as it wraps around onto the engine bulkhead area. Is this an illusion or is this missing as well? Now it really looks like our "copies"

...how do you post the picture and not the link?..

Jets are a BLAST to drive although it takes a little getting used to,as far as speed it takes big HP to get one really moving, but it seems to be impractial on a Donzi as mentioned in a previous post deep V's and jets are not the perfect combination I have a 1972 18' jetboat and with the low water around here it is perfect I can go just about anywhere there is 8" of water, plus the roostertail looks really cool.

It's not a bad thing to wanna take your toolbox in the boat with you-but this is stretching it a bit!
