Decent cam and a four barrel, maybe through transom exhaust(depends on noise police in your area should get you up there. Get some recommendations up here, I know its been done.

probably the easiest and most bang for the buck right off the bat would be going to a 4V intake and carburator setup... when i did this on the 16 with the same motor, with no other modifications i picked up 700 rpm (4400 --> 5100). you have the newer vortec cylinder heads so you may actually pick up a bit more but i can't guarantee it since you have a significantly larger boat than i do.. that 2V really chokes that motor off... the camshaft issue gets a lot more involved and unless you go really big you won't see the gains...

I have the same (I think?) boat - although '98 model - called a 21LXR then. I believe my hull is identical to the 22Z's.
Anyway, same motor, alpha drive spinning 19P prop @ 4900 gets me into the 50's easily (2 adults, 3 kids, full tank, etc)

Would like to do some mods as well, but she is so reliable I hate to touch her (i.e. I'd rather be on the water than in the garage)

Mark - Stay Close By - Yes -- Our Boats are Identical - My Z22 is 21 feet long -- Now to Add Some info - Alpha Drive Looks Like 1.62 R
Tide not low enough to read the Prop
THANX

I'm not positive, but I think my drive ratio is 1.50 - the prop is a Vengeance (sp?) - they pretty much came standard with this motor package in 1998. I could turn a 21P for a slight top end increase, but lose some on the low side. (I have had wakeboarders and skiiers sometimes complain about the hole-shot as it is  )

I have talked to a guy with a 99 22Z, 350 - supercharged (mild boost) that claimed 68mph. Don't know all of his engine specs, but I would have to see it to believe it.
I would also be a little wary of putting that much torque through an alpha.

BTW, how are you getting your speed #'s?
My speedometer has not been the most reliable instrument - GPS says 53 (under loaded conditions described above) I've never checked it under "perfect" conditions, weight, etc. but I would expect a couple mph higher.
Yours should run well over 40 in my opinion.

Lighten up the load a bit and trim her out. You'll feel the whole boat loosen up and you'll pick up AT LEAST 5 if not 10mph.

I agree, you will be suprised when you get that bow out of the water, and let the step "air" out

The fella who got me into all this three years ago, currently owns the same boat as you. He runs about 50 MPH plus or minus a couple, in light chop, brakish water, with a light fuel and passenger load.
