What is the max rpm's on a 1997 Carb 454 with a Bravo 1 drive? Or how do I find this out? IS there a redline for this motor?
thanks

Yes There is a red line for your motor. I do believe it is in the mid 4000 range. I am not 100% shure exactly what it is but it is less than a 350. I know that for shure. The 454 wasnt made to push alot of rpms.

When one of my engines slung a rod through the oil pan, I was told that with un-modified 454's, anthing over 4200 rpm started causing damage. My mechanic threatened to put what is left of my #8 piston on a chain and hang it around my neck in case I decided to ever push the envelope.

The WOT range of the 454 mag MPI (385 hp) is 4600-5000 rpm... is your motor the mag version carbed or the standard version? the 454 MPI (310 hp) is rated 4200 - 4600 rpm... i would imagine your carbed motor is along the same lines just not injected...

So Is that what they call a rev limiter -- and if so ( 5.7 -- 2bbl -- 250HP) What does one do to go from 40mph-(4 people--three quarters tank)to maybe 50mph if I'm red lined at 4200 or 4600???

My 1995 Gen V 454 Mag's (flat tappett) reccommended range was 4400-4600. Rev limiter kicked in around 4700.

BUT you have a MARK VI 454 w/hydraulic roller cam.

rev limiter is totally different it is the rpm at which the ignition system is interrupted to not allow the motor to gain anymore rpm.. on my 5.7L 250hp 2V that was right around 5100 rpm..

the operating range of the motor is where the motor should operate @ WOT... which is set by the prop for the combo you are running
