So who out there has met Don Aronow in person? I never had the opportunity to meet him, but I was curious to see how many of the registry members have met the legend and see if you'd share a story about your encounters with us.

When I introduced myself to the forum one of my posts concerned my meeting with Don in 1976 (I believe it was).

Also met Jim Wynne.. wish I had been able to include Dick Bertram as well

My Dad new Don well, He knew him back in the old days when he use to be a builder. I wish I still had our 1st Green and Red striped Donzi 16 that Don talked my father in to buying in 1964. She wasn;t the fastest but it was only the 4th or 5th made. My dad bought The little Cigarette from Don a 30ft Black with white deck and red striping. He was a fun guy that I remember I was only 14 and the last time I seen him was when I was 17.

I met him in Keyport, NJ. He flew in before the race in Pt. Pleasant to visit the Pedersens who built his first couple of boats before he built his own boats. I just happened to be there at the time and was introduced to him as a Donzi owner. That had to be in the mid seventies. His words to me were I didn't think the Donzis would last that long, refering to my 66 18. He of course laughed and invited me to go for a ride in the helicopter that he had flow up in from Pt. Pleasant. Very easy man to talk to. Went to the races the next day and waved to him behind the security fence and his daughter came over and asked me to fix something on her camera. It just seemed like you were an old friend no matter how long he knew you.

I wonder if Ringo or Paul M. remember going for a ride with him? Surely.

I met him in 1965 and again in 1966. No long conversations just introduction and listened to stories.
