Hose Question

This is a 2 part question. First of all, I was feeling some hoses on a 87 350 magnum. In one of the hoses, I felt some long metal thing. Is this the thermastat? Second, when do you know when to replace the hoses? Thanks Guys.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm? all of the above, :p
But really its a coil spring in your large lower hose eek! that keeps it from collapsing and it is suppose to be there because its the suction side of your water pump.
Some how I think Dr Ruth Westhymmer should be explaining this. wink
