Alpha SS vs Alpha 1 w/stern jack and nose cone

I want to add some speed to my boat and always thought that an Alpha SS might be the way to go. Then I saw an ad for the Stern Jack and visited their site. It would appear that I might be able to accomplish the same, or better, results by installing a Stern Jack and one of their nose cones. What are your thoughts? Does anyone have any experience with a Stern Jack and are they as good as the ad would lead you to beleive?

CDMA did a good review on a stern jack. Didnt add much speed, but the boat would not chinewalk.

Where do they sell Alpha nose cones?

Hydromotive used to make a nose cone for the Alpha. You might want to check.

A buddy of mine has a pair of Alpha SS drive on Land and Sea Sternjacks on his 24' Spitfire powered by 1987 320 EFI small blocks.

When the boat was re rigged from Volvo to Merc, the x-dimention was cut a little too high and it would not get on plane with the shorter SS drives. The Sternjacks planted the drives a little deeper out of the hole and they work incredible for this application, bit I can say that this was the only time I had seen an improvement with them.

Thanks for the reply Mr. Magoo; now about that Spitfire....any chance of getting some pictures posted? I rarely see anything on the Spitfire and I think that is one of the coolest classic Donzi's ever.

I have always heard/read that nosecones do almost nothing until 70mph. They do however look cool. As with any setback of the prop it really does not do much unless you raise the X-Dim. There was a company that made a jackable extension box back in the early 90's. It moved it up 1 or 2". This probably went the way of the Do-do when Imco shortys came out. Just like adding a jackplate to an outboard but keeping the height level...can't see it doing much.
