Donzimarine.com lists the max HP for a 16 Classic at 260HP. That would lead me to think a 350 Chevy is still (and has always been) available in the 16.

do you happen to know when the performance part of their site will be up?

Thanx Ranman,
I noticed so many 4.3's coming up, that I was curious.

We have an 03 model 16 classic with the 260hp 5.0litre mpi. Great package, but they run well with just about any of the power offering 205 hp v6 to the 260hp 5.0.

BOATMAN, I'm a bit confused. Mercury Marine lists the sterndrives as follows:

220HP - 5.0L
240HP - 5.0L EFI
250HP - 5.7L
260HP - 5.7L EFI

Is the Mercury Marine website outdated? Maybe you have a 5.7L instead of a 5.0L??

the 5.0 mpi is rated at 260 horse now.

Merc's website is 2002. For 03 the 5.7 efi is replaced by the 5.0 MPI and the 4.3 efi is replaced by the 4.3 MPI

GD,
If all this is still confusing, it is important to note that, YES, a Chevy V-8 is still available in the 16. However it is the 305 cubic in 5.0, not the 350 cubic in 5.7. The 305 is rated at 260hp.
To answer your original question, though, I believe 1998 was the last lear a 350 Cube was available in the 16 as a factory option.
In recent years, the 16 also had the 4.3L V-6 and that engine has come in several variations in each year. A 2bbl, a 4-bbl, and several F.I. choices. in 1999, for example the 2bbl was rated at 190hp, the 4bbl at 205hp and the F.I. at 210hp. Each year the HP rating has gone up.
Further Confusing the issues is that the 5.7 engine has various ratings including 220hp, 240 hp, 260hp, 300hp, and several more.
The 5.0 is currently rated at 260hp in its most powerful F.I. version and THAT is what Donzi is adverstising in the catalog. But the 205hp V-6 is the current standard engine. The 5.0 is one option. The 5.7 has not been offered in the 16, in recent years.

Magic and Tango,

Thanks for clearing this up for me too. One last question. What is the HP ratings for the 5.7's now. THe 350MAG is still 300 right? Is the 5.7 EFI still available? Thanks again for the info.

Ranman,
Tough question to answer. It is still only AUGUST, so it is early for 2003 models and listings. The Mercury Marine website is generally good and fresh, but has not yet been updated. So, perhaps a stroll down to your local Mercury Marine dealer is necessary. They usually have the latest scoop and info. You can search for one by going to www.mercurymarine.com (http://www.mercurymarine.com) and typing in your Zip code.
Let us know what you find out.
