I e-mailed Volvo Penta asking about the differences between the various DuoProp models, and which ones I could easily swap my AQ200 for. The reply, while well-intended, is pretty funny:
Dear Tony
I do not know where you come from, but your mail has ended up att Volvo Penta of
the Americas and I am responsible for Re-powering Leisure Business.
Your question could be very complex, but I assume you want to understand the
transom cut-outs for the different drive systems mentioned.
280 Dp = old system in the 80's we can call that big hole A.
290 DP = current transom cut out, call that big hole B.
290=>DPA,DPB,..........DPG.
DPX= high speed drive system similar to big hole B.
DPS = current drive system mainly for gas engines, small hole C.
DP = is just a general abreviation form DouProp, the most effective propulsion
system there is.
So if you come from an old gas engine with 280 (big hole A) and want to go to a
new gas engine you woud end up laminating your transom or fit an aluminum
adapter plate to small hole C.
