My wife wanted a pontoon boat, I wanted something a little more exiting. We found a pretty good compromise, a Donzi 24 Sport Deck. It has a 5.7 Merc with a Alpha 1 outdrive. What Can I do to increase the power?

It has a 2 V carb and thru the prop exhaust. Would a 4 V conversion be worthwhile? Holly has a throttlebody fuel injection unit out, has anyone used it? Would installing thru-the-hull exhaust be worth the money?

I have hit 50 mph with low fuel and only 2 bodys on board.

Thanks for the help!

David

Supercharge it!! That would be different a supercharged sport deck. Procharger makes a great centrifical charger for a 350 mag 5lbs boost about 60-65 mph.

The holley injection won't give you anything. Build or buy more power. Its not cheap, If you find horsepower cheap walk away or swim home. 60 is possible, want to play the role than pay the toll.

Dave98 - just for grins, take a look at, what appears to be, a haulin' deck boat at www.placediverter.com (http://www.placediverter.com) on their home page. BTW, I agree with Frank - supercharge!

Start by dumping the 2 bodies you have on board!!

Dave98,
I own a 96 18-Classic that was originally powered by a 210 H.P. 2-barrel. This combination used to run 53-54 with a 19P prop. Last summer I made several changes, replaced the stock intake manifold with an Edelbrock Performer manifold; replaced the 2-barrel carb with a model 4150 650 CFM Holley; replaced the factory cam with a Crane 272/284 cam; I also added 1" spacer under the carb. To date I have picked up about 4-5 MPH at a cost of about $1,200. The boat is still not propped correctly, once it is I should pick up another 1-2 MPH. I'm very satisfied with the results. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks for all of the good info. I was concerned that my boat not being a Classic might be a problem. I will own one of those beauties someday (probably after the kids leave the house).

Thanks again,

Dave
