I was thinking of all the repowers and outdrive upgrades we did this past year.
Let's post our Boat Model, Modifications, Engine, Prop, Outdrive, Performance, Controllability/Driveability. Maybe someone could make a spread sheet of our rides. This may help others to set up their boats.

How about the Speedy little 16 with the Alpha SS. Or the 22ZX with a Supercharged 454. The Big Block 18 with the OMC. 18's with Alpha SS. Radical Cammed 388 GT. Big block supercharged in Georgia. 18 with 5.7 MPI 300hp BlackHawk, and all the other Donzi's. GEOO

Wait!!!
We might want to put this in it's own little spot. This thread will be lost in the massive archives we have been accumulating.
MP is right, make a spread sheet, have everyone fill it out and post on a separate page for ready viewing.
This will be cool!

Scott,

I was all ready to post the results from the second shakedown run I made Friday of my X-18, but the dang MerTrans II TRS started to slip after about an a half hour use. We saw 55 MPH on the GPS while the RPMs were still climbing before the the transmission let loose. After reading my Mercruiser repair book, it looks like I'm not getting enough oil pressure to the clutch pack probably from me damaging a teflon seal when I put it all back together. You know, I can't stand these transmissions since parts are rare, and what parts are still available, Mercury bends you over big time for them. I haven't decide what I going to do yet, but I haven't ruled out sending the transmission out to someone who has more experience than I do with this beast. I just want to avoid getting bent over on this thing any more necessary.

Hey Elramone,
I also own a recent vintage 22 Classic with a 502. Great ride isn't it?
In regards to your Fountain comments, never bring a knife to a gun fight. I have owned three Fountains. 1996 27 fever with 500 HP, GPS at 76. 1997 32 fever with twin 800 SC, radar at 115.7. 1999 32 fever with twin 500 HP, GPS 88.5. You might beat a 27 with a 502, they only run 67-69, but that is about it; unless the guy at the wheel of the fountain has more money than boating sense. So quit your bragging!
Now, when it comes to Bajas, that is a whole other story. I keep looking for places to put a notch every time I blow one of those go-fast bayliners out of the water. Roadtrip says pick your battles wisely and with wisdom. Peace, Todd

Roadtrip;
I can relate to what your saying... cause we all know no one has more trophies than Reggie. And of course he makes some of the finest offshore vessels in the world... but I did say "ill equiped fountains" of which there are many.... where as they are an easy target. I also feel that Reggie has one huge bummer in his life.... since Don is gone... he can never be king... and because this is a DONZI board... I feel its ok to tote a knife in a gun fight. As for picking battles wisely.... I guess thats a guesstimation of the oppenents equipment from a distance.... so dont look at it as bragging... but rather enjoying taking down fountains. My 22 isnt even really that fast. I have a great bud with an 83 mph 18 Donz... I would never be ashamed to own a Fountain... in fact.. Id like to have one some day... but ist STILL fun to humiliate a guy who just spent 140K on a boat he felt would be the whip out in public. Besides roadtrip.. its kinda obvious who's got the hot ones... even from a distance... IST IT?

Hey Elramone,
I also own a recent vintage 22 Classic with a 502. Great ride isn't it?
In regards to your Fountain comments, never bring a knife to a gun fight. I have owned three Fountains. 1996 27 fever with 500 HP, GPS at 76. 1997 32 fever with twin 800 SC, radar at 115.7. 1999 32 fever with twin 500 HP, GPS 88.5. Hey Rick... thanks for the reply.
The boats a riot... we have tons of fun beating the **** out of ourselves... The motors a mercruiser Chevy.. and the Gils are wet offshore with custom fit risers. I also had the tips shotgunned and cut a little longer. I took out the silent choice of course to eliminate wieght. In fact.. its for sale on the sale board. I have another that Im restoring and a good friend with a smaller 18 that I can ride with this year. Im goin kinda nuts on lake property this year... and am toning down on toys.

Hey Elramone,
I am not trying to start a forum on the qualities of Reggie or his boats. I was just stating the obvious fact that you had better have one potent Donzi Classic to take a Fountain out. Now, that being said, why don't you and your buddy load that 83 mph 18 Classic up on May 11 and head south to Cumberland for the Annual Awakening of the Horses gathering. You, your buddy, some other twenty-plus Donzi owners, and I will sharpen our knives and go find a fountain or two to slay. I may be a little behind you, but I will be smiling the whole way....

Oh man, this is starting to sound like my buddies in High School...
"No...a Z-28 with a 302 will beat the hell out of a Mustang with a 351...blah blah blah..."
Come on!!!
Fountains are Fountains and right now, they hold every single V hull record going. I am an Aronow freak, but you just gotta give the Fountain corporation some credit.
Of course a guy with a hot engine is going to beat a lot of the boats out there, I would expect it! Let's get off the Offshoreonly.com mentality!
Hey GEOO,
I was listening to a conversation recently where your boat was touted as going over 100 MPH!!!!
Congratulations big fella!
I did question the guy and he admitted to overstating the HP and speed. Of course, when I identified myself, the truth came out!
Funny!!!!!
Oh, and no offense intended, hope none taken.
It's only me...

GeneD,
I'm sorry man. I probably should have just let this guy go on about how his 22 Classic eats fountains, but I just couldn't after spending many hours running these boats. I am a Donzi convert, but let's stick to the truth here now. If Mike Miller brings a 33 Daytona with 500HPs to the AOTH, you aren't going to hear me bragging afterwards about how I outran him.
Geeo,
Then elramone starts talking about his buddy's 18 that runs 83 mph. Not me. I openly invite him to bring that boat down to AOTH and we should be able to hunt down fountains all day with it. Until then, it's just talk...
In the meantime, I've got this tricked out Mustang Cobra that will run a Z-28 into the... okay, I'll stop now. todd

Man.... you guys are tough.... I dont think I could run against guys like you. I have to admit Im shocked by a couple things.,...1) you think 73 in a classic is bragging 2) you get upset at the thought of any fountains not able to exceed 73 mph 3) and someone is lying if they know of a Donzi that does 83 mph. Us motor city nuts have always been off based... havent we.... if we got out more we could meet more guys like you who know everything. Im just pulling you guys string.. so dont get snippy... but we really shouldnt be arguing anyway??? I was just listing the boat... period... I dont blame you for not believing me.. I usually dont believe half what I read either. The 18 is a bow tie small chevy... built ... never dyno'd.. but probably in the 425 hp range... with an alpha "believe it or not" and of course.. no extra baggage.

Gee, it just gets worse and worse!!!
Naw, really...there is an 18 out there that does 80+.
I think 73 MPH is a fantastic speed for an 18.
Mine used to go over/about 70 MPH with my old engine, now defunct of course. My new 260 isn't a neck braker, but it will do over 60 MPH, barely.
I make no bones about who I race, it really don't matter. If I think I can give him/her a good race, I'll go for it. Make don't make a difference. Most of these boats now are capable of lots of speed, long as the motor can put out some HP.
I have no idea where we are going in this discussion but I think we have beat it to death.
Let's get out, ride our machines and enjoy!

It pains me to type this... but I can not tell a lie... I called on the 18 cause I knew he had it radar'd and it ran 77-78 mph. I figured I better clarify just in case we did make it to the AOTH. Wew... it feels better already to clear my soul. I knew it beat the **** out of mine though.

OK guys this is a data post not a free for all. You guys ar acting like you belong to the old Offshore only group. My dad is bigger than your dad. Just REMEMBER there is no such thing as the fastest boat. When the green flag drops the bull **** stops. The Donzi net is a fraternity of guys trying to help each other --Not a bar fight. This is starting to look bad to me. You want to beat a guy up --E-MAIL them don't do it in public. Here everyone on the net can see it.
My advice is 1) Grow up 2) go back and delete your junk 3) THINK before you type.
We need accurate numbers on this post to help each other out. No bull, you will be found out. Exhample there are two boats both are the same both have bravo drives and the same size prop. One is 10 mph faster than the other. Props can vary 1/2 inch pitch either way, this in no way is 10 mph. If you don't know then state it. Your not running for office so be honest.

Randy

AVK. I would Try a 23 prop pitch. Or a 22 Bravo 4 blade You will gain about 5mph and lower your rpms to 4800-5000. That 350 should give you a little more.

The boat came with a 22 pitch prop and it toped out at about 50mph at much lower revs. I also tried a 20 pitch one and more or less the same thing, but a slightly higher top speed. The big difference was the "hole shot" the 22 was a dog and the 15 was a rocket. I am about to use a Haltech E6KGM programable ECU in the boat to optimise the FI. At 6200ft I lose at least 25% hp.

Hopefully the graphics/paint I had put on it won't slow it down to much. I guess we will have to see following the breakin period on the lake is finished.

Luckily the city police boat I didn't notice http://www.donzi.net/ubb/eek.gif and blew past at WOT didn't seem too upset. All I could do was smile and make a quick wave goodbye!

Also blew off some Formula/Baja/something big and ugly http://www.donzi.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif - he thought he was alone and really moving until he saw my tailpipes going away.

Cool thread; first time reading it. I may have missed it, but is there a spread sheet somewhere with all the figures?

Kind of like looking at old photo albums before hitting puberty... Geoo's Might mouse shows 80+mph rather than the bajillion (givel or take a trillion) mph he is running now :D

Any thoughts about doing a 2004 version of this? I think my title as the slowest donzi is still safe (other than Budmann's 22 :D ), but you never know. Maybe others have made significant improvements as well.
