I was asked by someone yesterday how members of the registry paid their dues. I was never asked that before. I almost fell over. He was surprised when i said there were none.

Were none....as in past tence....and now there are! LOL....I think that there should be some
sort of due's....to cover all the time and effort
that you put into this site. Anyone second that motion??

I would support the idea of a yearly fee to belong to this site, I know a lot of time is spent keeping it going. Rick

Thanks, but NO Dues. I feel strongly about that.

I second the dues.

For a few reasons

1) Scott deserves it
2) Moves sending Harbormaster money from " should do" list to the " need to do list"
3) This website costs the harbormaster money. He should be repayed then some.

Here is my idea:

Board is free to read.

You could register for a 30 day grace period to try out the board and see if it is worth it for you as an individual.

After 30 days it is a yearly dues set by the harbormaster at his discretion

Harbormaster could waive a members dues if he saw fit. ( aka someone who helps harbormaster with his boat or gives him something)

My $.02

Chris

I applaud you Scot. Keeping the site open to everyone in a free manner promotes the exchange of information on our boats. Charging dues has the potential to stifle that information exchange. I also applaud the fact that there are no banners or ads on Donzi.net.

This site is like the morning newspaper to me, but only better. Through Donzi.net I've made a number of new friends and have met a bunch of great people. This site has honestly changed my life in a positive way.

I encourage everyone who participates on this board to send in some sort of donation on a regular basis. It doesn't matter how much you send, just send what you can afford at the time. Even if it's a couple of bucks at least you're making an effort.

How many of you would have a near death experience if you woke up, went to sign on and the site was gone? Me too. Send Scot some money. Randy

Chit, where'd my checkbook go?

I agree with Harbormaster. As long as there are no dues or fees, he can run it as he pleases. As soon as someone pays money, they think they have "rights" on the board, and entilements. These supposed "rights" were dicussed on an ealier thread where someone was getting po'd because something wasn't posted quickly enough to suit them. I like it the way it is with a benoevolent dictatorship, :D it sure cuts down on arguments about how things should be run. Thanks for the great site!

I'd be ok to pay dues, my parents had to always pay my friend anyway, so why should this be any different.
