trying to choose between a '00 26zx,454,w/150 hrs for 50K and a '99 28ZX,twin 350's,w/100hrs for 65K. both are in great condition. which is the better, and smarter deal for the $$$? or is there a better deal out there? Thanks.

I think you can find a better deal if you look. A friend of mine purchased a new 2001 28ZX for in the low $70k range. In general twins are a better choice in the size of boat you are looking at for a number of reasons. I owned a 26ZX and the difference between it and my friends 28 was noticed. I really liked my 26 I just think the 28 is a better choice overall. Just my $.02

Several new 28's on boattraderonline priced in the $70's. I think this is a very good time to make an agressive deal on a new ZX.

If you want decent speed, the 26 w/ 454 isnt the right choice. The 28 with T350Mag/B1 will do 70.

If the 99 28ZX you are talking about is located at Jackson Marine Sales in Northeast, MD that boat has been for sale for two years now I think you should offer them a stupid price and see what happens. That 99 28Zx is in great shape I keep my 33ZX at Jackson's and have seen the boat. I moved up from a 28ZX the 28 with twin 350 mags is a perfect match for that hull mine ran great and hit 72 MPH top end. Good Luck.

Go for the twins in the 28.

RoadKing, give me a call I will give you some data. There is more to the boats than power and price, 99 model year versus an 00 or 01.
You should have bought my 26ZX, I am pulling the ad tonight.

It all depends on your personal taste, The 26ZX is a great running boat do not get the 454 you will kick yourself for doing it. 58 to 60mph if your lucky. The 502,496H/O or the 500efi are the motors. The 26 and the 28 run similar the 28 is 6mph faster because of the twins, Now the rest is Budget the 26 uses less gas, maintnence and easier to work on. I drove both many, many times. The 28 is slightly heavier you need trim tabs to plain but the ride is slightly softer but not by much. The 26 and the 28 both are good rough water boats. As far as the saying goes I can get back on one motor, Thats why I have a Boat US Plan with a single, I can get back in under his power. Remember the 28 change in 2001.

Thanks for the great info. I'm unaware of the 28 change in '01! I boat in the Ches.Bay out of the Innner Harbor and my 22zx beats my guests up a little too much. But it sure is fun to be the driver. Bryan, I will give you a call.
Thanks,
Rance

26 ZX without at least a 454 mag is under powered. 2001 and above several good changes.

The 26ZX is a solid boat and rides like a dream, I don't know much about 28 other than the fact it has twins. I would guess that maint. and operation cost would be more. I would think that the single engine would handle better because of that center of gravity thing. You will have a great boat in either the 26ZX or 28ZX anyway.

Darrell

P.S. I would not go anything smaller than 502 or a 496HO, you won't be happy.
