Well it came apart pretty quick and its now cleaned up and waiting to be mic'd. My newly cleaned garage need to be tidied up before I pull down 502 #2. I work on the computer/site for a while then go out to the garage and work on the engines for a while (Adult attention disorder). The bitch is not to get grease on the computer keyboard. :D

I did find a crack in the #1 intake manifold. It looks like it could be fixed, Anyone have a big block GM aluminum manifold laying around? It has a GM # 6269138 on it. let me know. This one could probably be heliarced.

Hate to say but you have less S@#& in your garage then me, CDMA can attest to that. Scot amazing how strong corrosian can be, honest I would hang that manifold on the wall for posterity. Get some reco's on what works better and do the Ebay dance, lots of stuff up there. And good luck hope all the major stuff is in good shape. Also nice to have you back from your Mars mission and posting again.

I'll keep an eye out for a intake :D

BTW: Heads and crank should be stored standing on end. (carefull crank does not fall eek! )
Yep! Those are my vintage NAPA calendars, before we became politically correct

Rick, edjukate me please. I think (maybe) I could see the benefit of storing a crank on end, but why the heads?

PS - thanks for use of the battery cable lug crimper.

PSS - the picture of your shop vs. Harbormaster's shows you obviously have a very sick mind wink

I know about cranks being stored on end, my local machine shop has pine box stands tha just the snout sicks out of so the don't fall. It is said they will sag over time. Never heard of the head issue, my guy has them flat also on soft pine all gooped with sticky oil up in plastic bags.

Looks like a big job HM, good luck with it. My guess for the head thing: the ends are the only parts without a machined surface. Other surfaces have to mate with the block, intake and exhaust manifolds. The top only gets the valve cover, but it also has the rockers, valves, springs, etc...cant sit it on that!

Wouldn't the HM's intake manifold condition warrant the consideration of fresh water cooling? It seems the obvious corrosion wouldn't have occured had there been a mix of anti-freeze and distilled water in those passages. The cost of the heat exchangers might be a wash compared to damage like this. My $.02.

Re the heads question...

Guys, you re making it way too complicated. The Heads are standing on end because of the vintage NAPA posters LOL :D :D :D :D
