Where do you tell if you have a v-8 ratio or 4 cyl etc?

I counted 25input teeth/26 recieve teeth on this "upper" I have in my hand and it has no numbers on it.

Is it in the lower unit? where the difference exists or the upper or a combination?

Very motor stupid,...Lenny

How the heck do you expect us to concentrate with that video playin over and over?????? :D :D On the serious side Lenny, you should be able to tell by manually turning the input shaft and count how many times the prop shaft turned with one shaft revolution.

If your unit was all pristine and in as new condition it would have a tag on it near where the
U-joint bellow fits.I'll bet its LONG gone ...
If I recall if it ended in a certain letter A/B etc that is how you could tell the ratio.
It's been too long since I spent some quality time with a Volvo, but that should change very soon wink
Gotta run... getting a sore neck again ..

I only have the upper to this 270...so, can I tell from the gears on the upper or do I need to put it together? (that ain't happening) There is no I.D.plate on it. Just 25/26 teeth on the gear set up top...

except, how do you have a 1-1 in the upper, and they are all the same in the 270, going to a lower that has 17 teeth feeding the 26 teeth at the prop shaft "thingy" and the math (26 divided by 17) gives you 1:5294117-1 ??? I need to come up with 1:61-1

Don't forget the original 26/25 reduction in the upper to get an overall reduction of 1.59:1 which makes it a 200B. The 1.61:1 was the 250B, 270B and 280B.
