Hey Rich,

I haven't been out lately...but hopefully thi weekend, we'll take the Cig for a ride...I saw Chris 2nd week in July on the Whaler and haven't seen or heard from him since...I assume he's locked in a battle with a wiring harness... http://www.donzi.net/ubb/smile.gif

Will you be out this weekend? I don't think we've spoken before---what are you ridin?

Oh, Seano!
Rich has got one of those rare 3 hatch 1966 18-2+3's big fella. And it is all original!
He's still runing that Ford motor in there, but hey! That don't make him a bad person!
Hey Rich, I love the little waving guy. Can we send him into the bilge to pick up all those lost beer cans? http://www.donzi.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey Gene,
How many of those 3 hatch 66's did they make? My 66 is a single hatch.

BB,
I really have no idea.
I'm wondering if the factory is correct in saying that the three hatch jobbers were prototypes.
Don't freak out big fella, the three hatch models are a pain to open the hatches while out on the water, and even in the driveway. They rattle, squeek, and cause all types of problems that aren't apparent with the single hatch boats.
They look cool though.
Have you put the air lifting rams on your hatch? If not, try it out, you will love it.

Sorry to confuse you guys; I think you're thinking of a different "Rich" - I'm the one who sold my '73 18' Classic to PaulO who sold engine/outdrive to Chris and am presently Donzi-less http://www.donzi.net/ubb/frown.gif

I did it again!
Yeah, I'm thinking of the Rich in Setauket.
Silly me! You mentioned the North Shore and didn't realize it said East Moriches under your hometown thingy. BTW, I am a former Port Jeff guy!
I still like the little wavy guy...

Hey.......Watch those Ford cracks....
Remember, those Donzi 28's in the early 60's winning the Miami offshore races were Ford powered.

Where is a good place to get to get those air lifting rams for the engine hatch. I have a 78' X18 and would like to put some on.

Well it is in and it runs. Spent a solid 4 days but it now if getting to where I want it to be. It went in Thursday and there were two little leaks that I had to fix so it was out and back in Friday. Ran for a bit friday until the distributor grenaded. So out again and in goes a new electronic dist. So Saturday morning we go back in and fire it up. Finally it seems all the kinks are gone. It ran really well for a while then I started to have some fuel starvation problems. As the secondaries would kick in I would sputter and stall. I found a loose connection on the vacuum side of the fuel
pump. After tightening that up it was better. I still think I am down a little on power though. My tach is on the fritz so I sort of am flying blind but with my shop tach jury rigged it seems I am only pulling 4500 out of an engine that in Paulo 's boat with the same drive and prop pulled close to 5000. The speed seems a little down from what I would have wanted as well. My 18 Bosgton Whaler with a 150 that runs a solid 46 does not really get left in the dust the way I would like. I seem to be maxing out about 52 depending on load. I know that is moving but I expected a little more. I was thinking something like 58-60. I may still be having some fuel starvation problems so I am going to put a fuel pressure gauge on it later today and we will see. Anyhow the boat runs really nice. Tracks well, habdles rough water well for a 18 foot boat. Does like to get airborne pretty easy but that is to be expected. I have spent 2 hours behind the wheel and already I feel confident in the boat. The new paint and chrome look great and evern the once vivid orange engine that now has a light mist of glasso yellow on it doesn't even look bad. The compliments are unreal and the looks are nonstop. Even if my engine isn't developing what it should I still want more power so this winter we are going to do that. I have three weeks till I go off to college but mid October I am going to rip the 350 down and see what is going on inside. I want more but on a college budget the money will be tight so I will have to watch. I would like a 383 but for money reasons a nicly worked 350 might be a better choice. I see these crate motors and no matter how I figure the money and time they seem like a better idea but I need to do it myself. I did the whole boat myself minus the upolstry and I want to see inside one of these engines and understand why and how it works. It may be simple to others but I just need to take one apart.

So Rich whenever you are ready the boat is now in Southold ready for a ride. It may not be perfect, it may not be totally done and it sure as hell ain't fast enough but for now it will do. This getting embarrassed by a 20 foot center console with a 250 needs to stop. Any ideas? Any one got any suggestions on where I can go and spend some time learning about engines so I can build mine?

Well I will post more later. I must go to work to pay for this beast.

Chris,

Glad to hear you've hit the water...and don't let the gremlins get you down. I should be out this weekend. Let's talk later in the week...I'd love to see how the boat came out.
