RickS mentioned GM is dropping the 502 for a 496.
Anyone have any info on the 496?
How long are the 502 crate engines going to be available?

Ya know, I could have sworn I read something in maybe Hot Boats Magazine in the last couple months where the author assured the readers that the 502 had a long and healthy future. Hmmm. Can't put my finger on the source tonight, but I'll try to look it up.

RickR,
I'll e-mail you the brochure on the new 496. In a nut shell here's what it says.

496 MAG HO Sterndrive
Propshaft HP 425
Bore/Stroke 4.25/4.38
Compression 9.1:1
Fuel System MPI
Full Throttle Range 4600-5000
Ignition PCM555 Distributorless
Weight w/Bravo1 1199 lbs.

496 MAG Sterndrive
Propshaft HP 375
Full Throttle Range 4400-4800

New Features:

Exhaust manifolds weigh 65% less, & have better corrosion protection.

Distributorless Ignition, no timing adjustments.

Control Module can control fuel mixture, knock control and ignition timing independently for each cylinder.

Looks like it says engines will have closed cooling, not sure if this covers sterndrive models.

Platinum-tipped spark plugs, best plugs in the world since they’re made on equipment I designed.

Forged Crank in HO; Forged Rods; Cast Aluminum Oil Pan.

I'm sure the 502 will be around for a while, at least another 5-6 years. It just won't be available in new boats after this year. It all depends on when GM decides to pull the plug on the 502.

HMMMMM!!
Sounds like the bore of a 454 with a longer stroke and 110cc large oval port heads.
100lbs more than a 502 Bravo http://www.donzi.net/ubb/rolleyes.gif
>torque,<HP
I think I'll look for a 502 http://www.donzi.net/ubb/biggrin.gif:

BTW My 22s 454 Mag is in the for sale section.
