After a rough ride last weekend in my 16 I noticed oil in the bilge. I like to check the engine compartment before and after each ride. At first it looked like the oil filter might be faulty? After changing and cleaning and a quick test ride the oil was back. The item was a cracked oil sensor line above the filter. My Marine guy tells me that this is the third one he has found with a problem. The engine is a V-6 merc LX. The line is long and has a bit of wait on the end. Sometimes the right jarring can crack the line. It can dump a lot of oil fast. Almost two liters into the bilge area. So check your engine well lots and keep that machine clean. The tell tale sign was oil spray on the lines to the trim pump and on the engine well plate on the port side. Its fine and running clean now.
But I have to say I lost a little sleep over what the problem was.
