Clayman, that really looks good. I saw your set-up when I dropped in on your party with Mark and Scott. What a workshop!!

At what temperature do you fire (bake?) that coating? I've dabbled in ceramics in the past and am considering getting back into it. The ability to powder coat could give me more incentive.

Pmreed, Actually everything that can be un bolted and without seals and bearings etc. can be powder coated. It must also be able to withstand 400-450 degrees. So, the block, heads, and the water pump is just high temp engine paint. I probably could have done the water pump, but I was worried about the bearings, melting the lube out. Anyway, it makes a really nice, oil, gas, chip, resistant coating. My ceramic kiln works really good, it is computerized , so it hold the temp really accurate. But most small shops just use an old oven. Usually you can pick them up really cheap.

You also have to watch out for the soft seal in the engine block that is hidden in by the oil pump area, if you damage that baby you wont have and oil pressure and say later to your motor. I have never tried powder coating before but I’ve heard if you have an older stove/oven that still works you can use it for powder coating but don’t ever plan on baking food with it again. Is that what you used or is it a commercial oven that you have?

I make pottery for a living, you can check out my web site @ Clayman (http://www.clayman.com) Just a little shameless plug, I also just put a small piece on EBAY just to try that thing out. If any is interested go to my site and click on auctions on the top. or try this link, auction (http://clayman.com/auction.htm) anyway, I have a 27"dia x 28"H ceramic kiln that I have been using for the powder coating
