OK, here is the deal, new Donzi 26ZX Loaded with all the toys came on a new FASTLOAT 2426T rated at 7000 pounds, tires C rated, 1760 x4, I just found out I am almost 7000 pounds loaded up. A friend says I am out of the limits of this alum trailer. Need some thoughts and experienced views on this matter.

She tows fine, 4 brakes and the F250 4x4 PSD can handle almost any situation. So the issue; is this the right load capacity trailer for my boat????
I plan a state inspection on the 8th due to this.

I see no problem other than the numbers, she has a 1000 miles on her now and seems fine from my view, am I ok???
Thanks guys, my bud has me wondering? Serious issue.

I wouldn't worry about it :D

There a alot of Registry members using a single axle trailer for a 18 Classic.

18Classic 2800# Dry
Tralier 500#
Plus fuel, battery and gear

Just make sure you keep the tires properly inflated when you are near the load limit.

Thanks Rick, I was just wondering, not an area I am smart in. I think I am fine, but when I need an honest answer I can always find it here, a great thing about this site!

Bryan,
Most manufacturer weight limits are under estimated anyway so that when the trailer gets older and weaker it will still withstand its limit. Your P/U is perfect for a smaller size Donzi like what you have and you shouldn’t have any trouble. A friend & I used to tow a 31’ IMP down to Cape Cod (about 50 miles away without trailer breaks working) with a STD cab 3500 Chevy diesel without much trouble (until we hit the dirt side road down hill to the house eek! ).

I’m sure that the Dealer would have tried to sell you a higher rated and more expensive trailer to go along with it too if they thought it would be underrated.

Bryan, you really should upgrade your tires to D rated. It might be necessary to run with a flat for a short distance before you can pull off. At 1750 each you are too close in my humble opinion.

You should be fine, there is most likely a 50% safety factor built in.

Bryan, I concur with other comments, tire pressure, etc. Also concur with upgrading to d-rated tires when its time for new ones.

for the what its worth category-- you may find a better deal on wheels and tires from the manufacturer of your trailer instead of westmarine/boatUS or even local tire guy. I went direct through Owens and Sons for my Slide-on and they were 40 bucks less for new tire and wheel.

I'll have two complete spares mounted prior to AOTH :)

POODLE, trailer "capacity" number is 7000.
Trailer weighs 1185 according to FASTLOAD.
I spoke to my Donzi dealer, he agrees I should be fine and to keep him posted if I think there is a problem.

This all came about with my actual weight, Donzi's brochures say 5000 dry ( I know it is much more), Donzi contacted me in reference to my two posts on "Ask the Factory" (one I deleted I figured a phone call was a better way) anyway, they contacted me, the last two 26ZX's were 6000 pounds each give or take 15 pounds between the two, put in 94 gallons of gas and your at about 6800 pounds, and then of course all the stuff.

I appreciate all the responses, for now I am going to chill on the issue, I have confidence in the total rig/truck/trailer as they sit.

We'll know the real deal Monday when I get the package weighed seperately, I will remove all doubt and theory.
And regardless of the numbers, she is a superior boat against most in the bay and ocean. Thanks Donzi!

See ya'll in KY.

POODLE, thanks for the info, I like your factual emails.

Reread my label this a.m.
GVWR is 7000 Weight is 840
Net Carrying Capacity is 6160
Hitch is a 10,000
I use a solid receiver.

I am on vacation next week and plan a trip to the truck stop. So WHAT IF I am over? Do you really think a dealer would give me a bigger trailer?
I upgraded my tow vehicle in the light of safety and now I have a new issue.
Poodle you'll be the first to know the scale results.

Another thought is though, when you put my preformance data in to an anylizer my weight would have to be closer to 5200 pounds for my speeds.

Hitched ready to go.
Off to BIG CHARLIES Truck Stop in the morning.
I am hoping we weigh in less than the numbers I got from Donzi. Results tomorrow Mr Poodle.
I will unhitch and weigh the truck and trailer seperately.
Thanks for all the replies and data, you guys are great!

Poodle-Excellent facts-alot of us lose the big weight picture-everything,altogether,lumped into the boat,A good rule of thumb may be to go over the boat weight by a 1000 lb. when buying a trailer for total load. Just my .02. Jim

An added note, my friend has been with Toledo Scales Co. for 30 years, we just talked and he said a state regulated truck scale is accurate within 30 pounds.

I towed a 26ZX for over 2 years 15K + miles with a loadmaster trailer similar to yours without any issue. Tow away and don't worry. You have more of a chance of someone pulling out in front of you. Happy boating!

MJP, thanks, I think I am fine too but want to be sure.
Happy boating!
