I am searching for a Donzi Classic 18 with a V8, trim tabs, silent choice exhaust with thru-hull exhaust, and would like EFI if possible. I live in Decatur, Illinois, and there is no such dealer anywhere near me. I have found many for sale, but they are all over 1000 miles away. Is there anything closer? I need help locating a nice used Donzi 18 to purchase for my own.

Cheers,
George

Hi George,

I'm over in Mattoon and have a restored 1986 Classic 22. The nearest dealer to us is in McHenry, IL. Check out their website http://baldknobmarina.com/ and give them a call. They occassionally have used 18's for sale. If you have time, keep looking on the web. You should find some for sale up around the great lakes. There are Donzi's scattered all over Michigan and northern Ohio. In the mean time, if you want to check out a 22, contact me at murphy4@advant.net I'd be happy to meet you over at Lake Shelbyville and take you for a spin in the 22. It may just change your search plans.

Thanks for the suggestion, Murphy, but I have all but exhausted my search, and they don't have any boats now. I am wanting an 18 only so I can pull it with my Jeep. But I will take you up on your offer.

Thanks! I just called them, but there was no answer. Where did you find this boat? Also, I am in Illinois...quite a ways away from MD. Also probably has the OMC drive...and I heard those Donzis are the wrong ones to own...dues to poor build quality and "thin" construction. Am I wrong?

George,
I received an e-mail today from a woman named Heather Jo in Michigan. It seems she got an 18' Classic through a divorse settlement and now is looking to sell it. She didn't give me many details about the boat or a picture of it, but it is a 1986, red and white, with a trailer. She was asking me about what price range the boat would fall into or where to find information. I refered her to the Registry. She said she had an idea of what she thought the boat was worth. Apparently it's been detailed and stored indoors yearly. She said it has 350 engine hours. E-mail address is: Stewy68@aol.com Phone number: (231) 893-1133

Here's a real fast one for sale in Minnesota. (http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/3/4/27782534.htm) That's not too far from Illinois, right? It's also listed on the Registry's "for sale" section as a 1973 18'.
Good luck!

There is a really fast X-18 probably for sale in Lake George. The only thing wrong with it is the fecal stains on the drivers seat. Just kidding.(sorry Geo)
Be patient, don't get in a hurry. The right boat will come along.

Yes...I have looked on boattraderonline.com and found TONS of Donzis, but not what I am looking for. I guess I will just have to WAIT longer...possibly in the fall. Any suggestions there? I don't want to "settle" for anything, but I also want one NOW!!!

...Waiting on a reply from Eddie, the guy in NJ with the '67 2+3 Barrelback<?> He says it will do 75mph with an Alpha 1 SS Drive and 350 HP 350 SBC. Any suggestions here? It is the yellow one.

George,
I've seen eddies boat, and it is nice. Fresh paint, good interior. It had a deck off restoration. I believe he even added another layer of mat to the bottom. I was close to making him an offer, but i think im gonna save up a bit more $$ and go with a 22. and yes, it IS a barrelback. Good luck in your search.

George,
I have been thinking of upgrading to a 22 sometime this year. I have a 96 18 Classic with a 350 Magnum MPI Gen+ Bravo. It has silent choice, trim tabs, galv trailer, etc. It is red/white and is in excellent condition. It is in Orlando, but it is only a short flight and an excuse to get away for a weekend. Come down and look at it. We can always find some way to get it up north. I am in no hurry to sell, so keep it in mind, if you don't find one you like.

Bob, thanks! I might just take you up on that offer. And I will keep you in mind.

Also, since I am new to the Donzi experience, what is a "Barrelback?" How is it different from, say, a regular Classic?
