Would you buy a ticket for a chance?
Is 100 dollars per ticket too much?

My only gripe is that i am not eligible to win! DAMN!

For this to work right, I think everything would have to be public. I would post the first name and last initial of everyone who purchases a ticket and also how many they purchased. That way everyone can track the Progress. I would keep address of everyone purchasing tickets confidential unless of course you are the winner. In the event of us not reaching the required figure, all entries would be returned. Anyone have any other suggestions on how to conduct this? I will speak with my accountant and attorney on what I need to do.

I've never won anything through chance in my life, so I figure I'm due! $100 is not too much, but I would buy 3 for $50.00 for sure. Two at $100.00 each is borderline for me. I've gotta buy lots of gas for the Donzi!

I agree with Madpoodle, just rough numbers we run a raffle at a club I belong to 300 tix sold @ 100.00 =30k 20k given in prizes 10k to the club
so what is the dealer cost on a 16? maybe we would need to sell 350-400 tix

sell the amount of tickets as members on the board?
I know you would probably need a raffling liscence to pull this off. If your not a non for profit organization, it is considered gambling.
I could be wrong on this, but I think the best thing to do (so you can hold future raffles)would be to get a non-profit tax I.d., you could get it by saying you worship boats or better yet, donzis.

I have heard of people getting non for profit liscences by saying they worship there hobby.
All of us do worship donzi's anyhow.
So it is considered a "religion" wink

We can hold raffles whenever we want then.

like raffle off some gaffrig gauges.

or raffle off a labbed prop for a boat.

raffle A stroked 350 or 351

supercharger..........
etc

If you feel the need to buy yourself a new boat or car you can write it off as a non-profit buisness expense eek!

Im in either way

I would pay to buy a raffle ticket.
The only other thing to think about is that the winner has to pay tax on the value of the boat.

...over 1300 members, thousands of looky-loo's and only 50 replys... ...

there has never been a shortage of input when it comes to questions tho,...

...and on the positive side...responses to those questions, graciously, from the people who know...

SHOW YOUR COLOURS!!!!

...or I'm never going to mention this money raising scenario again... :( :(

Sorry Scot... just venting over a 30K boat and thousands of recipients...

I live 3500 miles away from either of the DONZI homelands (FLA and NY) and ANY answer to a question, correct!!!, which they all are,.. :D is certainly worth 2 1/2 hours of labour in the shop. Why is this so HARD???

I understand the frustration Len, some people "Get It" and some don't. Its still the best idea
seen in years........ and we can all, at this time, tell Scot V. how much he means to us. THIS WILL HAPPEN.
But don't forget Lenny, that 1/2 of the members are new. They have
not gotten $100 worth of stuff from the site......... yet.
Cause they haven't used it to full potential.
You want local donzi meets? They get started here. You want to run in a pack? You only need to post a weekend here.
Some of us are different than most, in that, we are not afraid of going out and running with other people: Like your invite to run in Canada. And this board lets us connect up with those other folk that are just looking for a good time. In my book that is priceless, cause you can't place a value on a day gone well, a sunset, meeting new folk and sharing brews after a day run or seeing how someone else "Plays" with the waves. You can't buy that. But Donzi net can make it happen. And it has for me, on several occasions....

I'd probably participate, but you need to check w/ a legal mind somewhere... I think that in some states, only non-profits (as defined by IRS rules) can conduct raffles... I also know that raffles and givaways are not allowed in some other states.

Actually, I'd be more interested in an 18...

I'm in, but if my dad contributes the boat I can't play.

An 18 would add about $10K-$15K over a 16 Classic, depends on power. I gave Scot the information on a 16 Classic with a 305 a few months back. In my opinion this would be the best fit for the raffle, more desirable than a V-6 16. My father will sell the boat to the registry at cost but there's also transportation, batteries, prep for use and a trailer. This stuff he'll also contribute at cost but remember even a 16 can get expensive. We need a lot of people on the band wagon. Should we look elseware to see if there's interest? OSO, American Hot Boat, Hot Boat Fourm?

I can not believe that at this point only 64 people have voted. Really if you don't want to buy a ticket at least vote no so that we know you at least have seen this and given it at least a little thought!

just email people about it, its more direct.

I dont know

all I know is that I have heard talk abou it before.

at $100 a ticket we would need at least 300 people to buy tickets for it.

do something like:

raffle end date will be april 5th 2003
If the 300 ticket minimum is not reached the raffle will continue till June 5th 2003.
then if the raffle isnt over 300 there will ba a vote from all ticket holders either continue till the 300 mark is made or to refund the money.

3/4 vote will make it final. kind of like how they pass bills or veto bills.

ETC

you could use that as a template.

I emailed scot a while ago about wording and other stuff.

I'd do it even though I don't fit in a 16. If I won, I'm sure that I could transform it into something more suitable for me.

I dont understand why more people aren't jumping on board. Here's a possible sweetener for those of you on the fence. If, in the unlikely event that I win the 16, I will turn around and sell it at an EXTREMELY reasonable price, if you get my drift, to a registry member. to make it fair I would be willing to set up a bid process, like ebay, only available to registry members. I would like to support the board but don't really need another boat...

OK, this thread is dying... :( Do we now need to "think outside the box?" Should we post a link to it elsewhere or let it die?.

It appears as tho we are only going to sell about 100 tickets here @ $100 each, so that will pay for the motor and a bit of the leg...Now what about the hull and support for this site?...

Bandit
04-05-2002, 10:32 AM
Still thinking in the box. There's 87% that would contribute and 76% state $100 is not to much.

According to Lenny, there's about 100 people that would join in to support this site through the raffle.

How about 1 ticket for $200, that's $20,000 if we keep the original 100 and we only need 50 more.

Think of it as being part of your local charity and support for what has taken place on this site.

If another 50 won't step up to the plate, let's go outside the box.

With this method, the odds of 1-150 in winning a new Donzi should be appealing to even the non-Donzi owners!

May be what you are hearing from is those that can aford to invest in someone elses boat, I can't even afford to fix mine much less dump 50 dollars into someone elses boat. I will not give up my Donzi and one day it will run again.
I already send Scot 50 dollars a year for the site so the next 50 goes into my boat, not into a chance at having another boat sitting in the drive way.
So guys take it easy on those of us that have not replied and jumped on the band wagon to support a lottery. We may have personal reasons and it does not mean we don't appreciate what Scot has done for the site. Scot knows well who appreciates what he does and he hasn't needed the lottery to sort them out.
thanks again Scot
oh yes I was one of the first to vote.

We spend more in gas in a day than a chance to win a new boat. This can work plus it will give us a chance to support a great site. Pitch in!!
