In the late 60s my father sent away for plans of the Wynn-Mill II at a cost of about $350.00. The plans came from Jim Wynn. My father finished the boat in 1976.Its powered by a 4 cylinder Chysler-Volvo 130.

Nice ride! I like the mahogany deck. Have you entered it in any wooden boat shows?

I went back and found the artical in the (Feb 1967 Boating) magazine the article was (The Embarrising Donzi) At the end of the aticle was an address to order plans for $50.00 I was wrong about the $350.00. The address was to Jim Wynne at Hydro Mechanical Development Inc.
I still have the plans and article. I will try to scann and post the article. the plans are faded and warn.

Warren, Thank you for confirming a mystery for me. I was up in a high mountain lake with my Jr. And the Care Taker swore he and a buddy made a boat just like mine out of wood from bought plans. His story makes sense now. :D

She is beautiful.....

Lets Preserve these Plans!!!!

Warren, Harbormaster is right, the plans should be preserved. Contact the Northeast Document Conservation Center in Andover, MA (978)470-1010. Their paper conservators can give you good advice on how to care and preserve you plans. It they do need conservation treatment to stabilize them the Center is one of the best places in the country to have the work done

Warren,
We could also use a draftsman to redraw the plans on new paper. I would love to have some matted and framed.

If I had a copy of the plans, I could transfer them to a DXF, Autocad or GE3 file so that everyone could read them on a CAD program.
Anyway, they should be preserved.
What a piece of History!!!!!!!

if someone would like them on cad here's a dumb engineer at your service! i'd be willing to recreate them in electronic format and run a few hard copies, might take a bit to do depending upon the size and content but no sweat... ALSO todays blueprint machines can do awesome things with old blueprints to bring out clarity and sharpness, this way the originals stay with the owner... I reckon DXF would be the most versatile, straight from ACAD 14... but i could do IGES and if someone realllly wants to sink low i could do em in DGN format (Bentley Microstation). if need be i can do many file transformations to almost any CAD package file format.

I LIVE FOR THIS KINDA THING!!!

Warren,

The best thing to preserve old paper is Mylar. My Dad that has been a retired Engineer for a few years now has been an Antique Atlas/Map collector for a good 30 years now (he is known as the “Map Man” in Massachusetts) and the only thing that he has ever used has been 2 sheets of Mylar with 3M double sided tape to seal the town & county 100+ year old maps on all four sides.

Yes, Mylar is great. You have to remember to use only ph balanced materials (acid free) when doing archival work. I have been a Professional custom Picture Framer for 15 years. I usually suggest placing the subject between acid free boards (cotton) and keeping them out of any direct light. You can go as far as a sealed unit made out of an airtight container with a gas charged inner.
Acid free boards can be purchased in many different thicknesses, as well as acid free Foam core boards too. You may get these from any good picture framer.

So like Warren, you was going to scan that there article about the embarassing Donzi?
An article like that would be to me something of a Holy Grail. So like, maybe you COULD scan it, or you could send it to me insured and I Could scan it, or maybe SOMEBODY could scan it or......you could call me collect and I could record you reading it, or .................. :D

Warren, what you have - in those plans - is the seed, the start, the primal source, the begining of Donzi. Its worth saving.

...are you considering selling "copies" of these plans as Harbourmaster suggested??? I agree that they would make a neat conversation piece to say the least. eek!

Warren, How is this scanning/posting/selling project going? I wanted to bring this back up to the top as it is of great interest to me. I rode in one (hung on to one) for three days and I can attest that the hull runs well. Looking forward to ANYTHING you can re-create here.

Warren needs someone to fax the article to that can then also scan it.

How big are the plans? I have a blueprint copier that I could use.

Is it Easter already???
(I thought that's when things this old get RESURRECTED)

Having said that, I'd love a set of plans for the WM II.
If they were complete it would probably be the next project on the list!

You are tellin' it straight!

But, I do remember seeing very similar plans (if not the very same) on a site some time ago. Might have been Glen-L, maybe or, another place that sells plans...

The Wyn Mill II was designed by Walt Walters in 1962. That being said, the drawings may be available from the Mystic Seaport Museum.
