OK, we switched the truck over after an engine flush (52K miles then), the '01 7.3 Ford diesel picked up 3mpg towing or not, accross the board.
Who uses this in their marine engines?
Pro's, Cons? etc?
I am 200 hours on my Gen VI 502.
Curious....

Do you mean AMSOIL ? I put in the 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine Motor Oil, which is what the Tech Help guy from AMSOIL said to use in the Merc 502. So far so good. I ordered directly from AMSOIL for $20 per gallon.

Thanks...
Yes, I corrected the spelling! LOL
Just curious to see who runs it.
We are pleased with the new MPG numbers towing 9000 pounds.
Our rep mentioned a few filters, what filter number did he recommend?

Poodle, Amsoil recommended to convert the truck to leave old oil in, put on new filter and a couple pints of flush, run motor high RPM for 20 minutes and drain to get the sludge out, it did, that is for sure, change to their lube/filter.
Prior I changed mine on time every time, between 3000 and 3500.

In my truck the milage would drop off about 3000 miles, so I always knew I was close.

So I converted, ran to Ohio and back and picked up about 3 miles per gallon solid, they brag 8%, how ever they figure that, my guy promised 2 mpg.?.? My road trip non tow got me solid 19's mpg. Normally all the mountains on this regular trip yeilds 16's.

As I said I spent the morning reading everything on the web about Amsoil. Sounds like a good product, yet in the boat, service life for me is not an issue either, but maybe better wear and tear for the long runs we tend to make. Saturday was 190 miles, mostly 3800 at 52 mph GPS.

As one guy wrote, "so much to read who really knows what to believe!"
