Madpoodle's post got me thinking. We have few tricked out 16's and 18's on the board. But we don't hear of too many 22's. We all know Ted has a bad-ass 22' that's the only one I know of. I was hoping to make mine a little "badder" but my experiment didn't work. :(

So, who else has some bad-ass 22's? What's done to it and of course, how fast?

My 1978 22' has a turbocharged 454, approximatly 600 HP. It runs low to mid 80's consistently and once, on a 45 degree day it touched the upper 80's.

I sold my '82 22' a few years ago. I went through everything. It had a 530 hp 468 and went 78 mph, would have been faster were it not for the 1982 x-dimension on the TRS drive. Looked beautiful w/ new red and white and sounded beautiful w/ Stellings s.s. headers.

Just got my first 22' Classic (1994)and didn't like the 454 it had in it so I got a good deal on a new Marine Power X500 engine (500hp). Got it back 2wks ago and have been in it a few times. Need to dial it in but at this point I'm getting 70mph on speedo at 4200-4400 rpms with 25p Prop. Friend thinks timing is not set right. Any suggestions from tech guys. Have Hydrive duel ram external steering to have installed. Then I'll be looking into shorty drive with different gear ratios from my 1.5 (any suggestions) Having a ball fixing this toy up.

34->37' total is where they run best with no problems.
Matt, I have a 1981 TRS and it runs well and always has. If you check the X dimention it is on par with the stock bravo drive except the prop is set back 6 inches father to the rear than the prop on a bravo. With the stock 454 of that year it ran with all others. The big power robbere is the trans not the drive. With todays power the boat runs well with the new now equipped bravo 22.
There is one advantage it is alot stronger than the bravo! I'll be racing while you're replacing.

At Deep Creek Lake, MD there is a solid red 22. Pretty sure it hits the 80's. Talked to the guy that owned it a long time ago. Said he use to have a 16 and ran around with the previous owner of my Donzi copy Cobalt. Said he had to go faster so he got the 22. For a long time, any time I'd spot him up at Deep Creek he'd balst anything up there. Now there's a real fast tunnel hull up there, but for some reason it looks wierd to me. Haven't seen the red Donzi for a while. Buzz by its old dock occasionally and I think its gone! Bummer. Deep Creek needs more Donzi's (One limitation: Lake has a 24 or 25 foot max.).
