crate engines ?

Can anyone tell me anything about the difference between marine crate engines and standaard Mercruiser engines, I am thinking about repowering to a 502 from my 454 mag, what problems will I have?

As long as it`s a true GM marine crate motor, it is the same base engine long block that Mercruiser recieves from GM.

I had done extensive research on them a few years ago and bought 2 new 454 HO`s from 1800runsnew.
Repowered my 33 Fountain and they ran flawlessly.
