Here's one for ya...
I noticed that my circulation pump was leaking. The pump looked original, so I figured the seal was shot... But the weep holes were dry.
Pulled the pump and noticed what appeared to be a gasket leak on the backing plate. Put a wrench on the bolts to remove it and two of the bolts fell off at their heads. They were totally rotted off! The leak was actually around what was left of the head of one of the bolts!
Anybody seen anything like this? I figured that all these items would be stainless on a marine pump????
New bolts and reinstall. Leak gone. Dollar-fifty fix for a $150 pump.
