I am a new Donzi owner, A new boat owner and new to boating. There, got that off my chest. Went to put mu 1996 275 LXC in the water and as I was opening up the gas valve, I found a green wire with a round connector on the end. NOT attached
to any thing. Checked the tank, it was grounded.
Then checked the wire, it was not, which leads me to believe it there to be grounded. Can not see where it goes. Any idea !!

GREEN! Ground is black, check with an OHM meter if it does in fact go to ground it could very well be the green wire that ties the AC to DC ground. Do you have a shore power socket close to this wire? Most people do not know of its existence but is a required hookup in boats with shore power. We find electrolisis problems with it many times, we call it green wire syndrome and cut the bugger. A lot of mech's disconnect it. I doubt if it is a fuel filter ground, I have never ever seen one grounded, gas tanks are grounded to bleed off any static when filling and to supply ground for the fuel gauge. Note a good thing to do when filling the tank on dry possibly staticy days is to touch the nozzle to the still capped off fuel fill. I have read several articles on static discharge from the nozzle causing things to go BOOOOM!

the GROUND wire attached to my filler neck in the deck is GREEN... is tie strapped to the hose which goes to tank... so i do not know where the wire terminates at. It originates at the filler neck though...

I stand corrected on the wire color now being green for bonding, like I have said many times I am an OLD wrench! How the heck did I know they decided to add and change colors of the BIA wiring. The link below spells out the up to date wiring code.

Walt can't take the credit for the site, another member found it a little while back. As usual I can't remember who! But I also thank him again. It is well worth book marking.

Jamie,
on the last two projects I've seen my 16 and the cig 19 they have grounded the tank to the filler using the wire reinforcement of the filler hose as the conductor. cut the wire longer then the hose and bend up into the hose on the tank side so it hits the filler neck and attached it to the filler housing on the deck( not saying it is right or wrong but that wire is some tuff stuff hard to bend).
as long as it is making a good connection
my tank was painted so I had to sand it clean and it also has a grounding lug so I ran my own ground wire from the tank to the filler then to the ground on the dash

Matty,

on my filler neck there is actually a 12 gauge green wire which runs somewhere under the floor, i assume the tank. The other end is connected to the filler neck. the filler neck has 2 screws and one thru-bolt holding it to the deck. the green wire has a ring terminal crimped on and is attached under the nut to the thru-bolt.

Jamie,
that sounds right,I would think they would have run from ground in the back to the tank then to the filler, I was afraid to have the wires crushed when I put the deck so I'll pick my ground up from the dash. The new tank actually had a seperate lug for ground
I hear you have wiring diagrams for the 16???
I might need one I can't figure out where I lost my ground  :o

Matty
If you're not gaining ground you're losing it!!!!
