View Full Version : LH Rotation Cams 347 FSB

I am looking for sources for good cams and possibly some comments from first hand users on cams for a H&M rebuild.

I will be building a 347 cu in Ford this winter and am starting that process now by sourcing everything.

As my desire is to save the original 302 engine from H&M . .
So I am going to start with a NEW 302 Ford Motorsport block, a stroker kit to make it a 347, with a CR of 9.0 : 1 and 64 CC Aluminum heads, all breathing through a Holley 650 on an Air Gap manifold. For originality I will retain the original H&M log manifolds.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome!!!!

well my suggestion would be to run a 351w if your gonna spend the money on the stroker kit.

stroke the 351w to 418ci wink

lunati makes decent cams for the fords.

Maintaining as much originality (including visual)without altering anything on the hull is priority #1.
As best I am able to determine the increased deck height of the 351W changes the location of my H&M logs and might require altering the exhaust port location in the transom. This boat has a perfectly healthy transom. I also would need to get a new intake manifold.

Lunati's SBF 350 kit inspired me initially, but Lunati does not make any LHR cams . . and their kit also alters the firing order.

wait, i think the motor runs in standard rotation, like the automotive type?

I'm not sure but im going to look into it. I know my motor runs like the automotive.

Are you building two motors :confused:

My boat once had a h/m 302 in it, there was no alteration of the exhaust holes but the hose that connects the back of the headers to the tip is angled.So i guess that visually alters it :o

Mario, what your doing is exactly what I would do if I was starting on a *stock appearing* 302 derivative. Changing the firing order is no biggie with a 347 kit, so don't sweat that. VERY common place. The BIG question is, is it a roller or non-roller block your buying? if it's a roller, just get the 302 or 303 offroad cams from Ford Motorsport, and be done with it. I like the docile 302 coded grind myself. I might use a vacuum secondary carb though, and the steel Pro heads, unless fresh water usage is 100% a given. Everything else you have thought of is a go, just do it.

The old H&M were standard Rotation the outdrive is left only. Thee firing order change is just a cam change. I have don it both ways.
