OK guys looking for suggestions for the raw water pump for the Hornet. I'm going to be running a engine only heat exchanger set-up. The old raw water pump was a crank driven Sherwood model that interfaced with the damper/pulley via one three cog tiangular bushing mounted to the pump which bolted through a bracket that bolts off the front of the motor/mount. There was another matching bushing bolted up to the damper and the two met face to face. This was set-up for raw water only cooling.
Anyway here's the questions, the old pump is junk, and I'm looking for advice. Can I run a Magnaflow off the crank in lieu of the cam & are they reliable? Is a mercruiser pump a better choice? .. or should I change to a belt driven pump? Anyway, as usual I'll be greatful for any and all help or suggestions. http://206.150.187.82/ubb/biggrin.gif

I like crank-driven pumps since there are no belts to deal with. The Magnaflow pump should work just fine, but I think that it is only available cam driven and will require a special cast aluminum timing cover and other hardware. You should be able to pick up a new crank-driven pump for about $135.00. Basic Power Industries (http://www.basicpower.com/)in NC has them for that price and they ship it for free.
