While enjoying my '68 16 ski sporter (351Holman Moody), I slammed into a wake larger than I had expected cracking the deck longitudinally on the port side about mid-boat. This irregular crack is about 2 feet long. The gap created now actually flexes somewhat with the lower hull. I know these older boats are supposed to be made of more robust fiberglass so I am surprised at this damage. To properly fix this, am I correct in assuming the whole deck has to come off to fix this from underneath? Does anybody know any good fiberglass people in the upstate New York, Kingston area?

I have no answer but would like to add to your question. How durable are the older donzi boats, like my 68 16ft. I run on a lake where 4-6ft. waves are not uncommon I read about air time, but has anyone ever distroyed a hull on impact.

There was an idiot that had already lost one eye in a previous disaster. He stuffed this puppy into a wave and got fined big time for creating an environmental hazard! http://206.150.187.82/ubb/eek.gif

It sounds like the easist way would be to pull the deck. This winter when I was restoring mine I had a tree fall on it and leave a foot crack along the hull to deck joint about an inch down the hull. I was able to crawl in and reglass from the inside but it was certantily not fun. I then ground out all the crack from the outside and filled it. The crack almost went through the entire orininal laminate but with at least 8 layers of new glass behind it I am comfortable. Big ass tree
