Would anyone know where to find these sliding & locking types of hinges if you call them hinges?

Can't help you on the hinges... sorry. But what is in that thing. It looks like a vette, but what is the powerplant? --Brad

It is a Vette but I don’t know what it has in it. I just found this pic from my local AC Cobra replica site http://www.factoryfive.com while I was searching for locking hinges for my hatch.

Here are a couple other shots of it:

Actually, what I was originally looking for was the aluminum type hinges that Winston Cup & the Busch series use that have holes drilled throught them. I got a little bit side tracked when I found the ones above. I will find some more shots of what they look like but they could be some custom lightweight hinges that each Nascar shop designs themselves.

Scott,
I am still interested in what you come up with though.

Thanks,
Craig

I put a pair on my Pantera to replace the gas lifting struts (they warp the deck lid when the engine heat increases their pressure).

along these lines, I've toyed with the idea of changing my engine hatch lift. The existing system in my boat has one hydraulic ram to lift the engine hatch...it takes about half a day for the ram to lift the engine hatch...zzzzzz...and the same amount of time to lower it. I wouldn't mind replacing it with something manual. anybody have any ideas?

Okay here is the best shot that I could come up with for what I am looking for:

http://www.donzi.net/photos/cringer0010102.jpg

These lock in place and are made to hold the hood on the cars at 200mph in a wreck (except for the 97 Daytona 500 that I was at when I saw swerving Ervin's hood fly off into the stands along with Big E flipping a few times on the backstretch).

Any ideas where to buy a pair? :D

Thanks again,
Craig

Guitar center might have soemthing like the locking hinges that are on that vette.

we use them to tilt the monitor sound board up from the special SKB case it is in.

I dont think you want to use them though.
they break easily.

the second type of hinges look trick!

Those second hinges will only be used as the locking device for the hatch, I will still use the original 1966 hinges on the out side for the pivoting part of the hatch.

Since I don't have much to start with for a restore, I might as well make it mostly custom :D

Not to get off the subject, but the vette engine should be a small block chevy 350 with I believe Strongburg carbs. (4) Pretty trick race car, I believe from Penski's Trans-Am days. Have dollars, will race!

Digger I beleive you have the electric ram. My son has one too. he says they now make a increase speed kit for them. I have a hydralick one on my Criterion abd it is actually too fast and powerfull. You might see it if I bring it to Cumberland. Still working on the transmission and outdriveproblems.

Incase someone is as whacked out as much as I am, I found some of these hood/hatch props if you have any use for them:

thx Randy. You're right, it is electrically driven, the ram itself is hydraulic. I would be very interested in seeing something that could speed it up.
see you at AOTH!
