While looking for motor options for my 18 2+3, a local guy has offered me a Big Block 454 as an option. I know RickR has one in his boat so I know it is possible. How does the height of the carb and risers compare to the SBC? Rick has a raised portion on his engine hatch while I only have a small scoop for the carb. Are the motor mount locations the same?
Thanks again for any info.

Height is a big problem. I had to trim my Gaffrig flame arrestor to fit under the hatch. Ended up with 1/4"clearance for engine alignment and torque.
My 18 has a high X Dimension and it looks like the OMC King Cobra mounts higher than the Alpha.
Also some of the BBC intakes are pretty tall.
There are some short Corvette intakes available that might help you a inch or two.
Of course you could install a larger hump or hood scoop http://206.150.187.82/ubb/eek.gif
My exhaust was custom made for me by IMCO, it would be tough to use an "off the shelf exhaust".
Motor mounts and bell housing are the same as SBC.
Let me know if I can take any measurements for you.
