Now my donzi 18 was running fine with its Volvo 5.7Gsi (280 +s tock hp)after the Orlando show. I was so happy to be out on Sarasota bay running WOT in the low to mid 70s. Now, Last week at work I find out Volvo Penta is coming out with a 5.7Gxi for 2001. It is a 315 PSHP motor. This is very cool since I'm a Volvo guy and former employee! BUT - WHY NOW! I just my boat running where I wanted it. Looks like I need another prototype motor!

Stromer,
Do you use the Volvo Duoprop behind your 5.7? I am told that with the duoprop there is zero steering torque and fabulous hole shot capability. Any thoughts on this?

Hey that 5.7 would look good in Sallie's Boat

You are right Philip-thr new 5.7Gxi would look nice in Sally.Volvo went back to the red engine blocks. I always like them - they looked like an engine that just came from a machine shop.
As for the DP behind it. Yes the DP does virtually eliminate steering torqe - however, it does hold you back about 2 - 3 MPH on the top end (once over 60 MPH). Also, the 18 2+3 does not need the huge ammount of stern lift the DP creates. The DP is better suited for 23'plus boats.
I am running everything stock 5.7 Gsi (280+ PSHP) and a 14 3/4 X 21+ SST prop. No radar yet but Donzi and old Volvo workmates have it at 72-74 on paper. My speedo ends at 65 and I hit that at 4200 RPM - top RPM is 5000.
About steering torque - I dont have it! I did switch the Volvo SX (simple to do) to left hand prop. The only thing I notice is that when I get good air, it tend to push the boat to starboard and land on that side.
It is running great - raced a Fountain 32 today - kept up with him for about a mile until we hit major waves in the gulf and I nearly lost it. I just found a sand bar and had a beer at that point.
