Just bought a 2000 Donzi 18 Classic and ran it from Ft. Lauderdale to Freeport, Bahamas first half of Gulsteam was pretty calm but second half was 4-6ft. Boat seemed OK up to about 3ft. After that we had to slow way down. Would like to install a set of trim tabs as I feel this would help in rough water handling. What size and kind should I run? Also where could I get a installation diagram ? The boat has a 350 Magnum and a Alpha drive with a 25" Mirage prop.

Now this is something I want to try. And I don't mean installing trim tabs.
Anyone got the guts to try it with me?
As far as the trim tabs go, when you buy your trim tab kit, the installation diagrams give you all the info you need. Lot's of guys are running those Bennett Sport tabs with good success. What are they 12 X 12?

I have 12" x 9" Bennett tabs on my 18. They work great and do help in rough water. Here is a link to the Bennett page. Click on "Sizing" & "Installation" for some good info.

Gene, I would do the Bahamas!!! Two years ago I took my 24 Pursuit, trailered from CT to Fort Lauderdale, then from Miami to Bimini, Chub Cay, Nassau, Harbour Island. I'm always' into a good adventure. Maybe next time I go to FLA??? GEOO

When I had my old 23' Fish Nautique, I took her over to Bimini. I love the diving over there and have found the 'stream to be best for a crossing in early August. Bill and Nawdla Keef have a dive shop on North Bimini and have the numbers for a lot of good dive spots. Having said that, and since I haven't bought my Z-72 yet, can I go with you guys? Can I? Please, please? http://www.donzi.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll measure my Bennetts and post the results. They work fine on my 21.

I'll do a Bahamas trip too! That would be insane!! http://www.donzi.net/ubb/biggrin.gif What's "our" average gas mileage?? (2-4 mpg?) I have a 60 gal. tank, and 388 ci. motor.....it appears to pretty good on gas....
